There will be NO SCHOOL Friday, February 28th due to Staff Development. Enjoy the time off!
Dear Hope Academy families,
Following God’s call to start Hope Academy has been one of the greatest joys of my life. For more than 25 years I have worked alongside a committed, dedicated, and faithful group of staff, Partners, and families to foster hope in God for the youth of the city, and I have been a witness to God’s faithfulness.
Four years ago, I approached the Hope Academy Board about developing a Head of School Succession plan. A transition team, along with expert counsel specializing in faith-based leadership transitions, helped us create a plan and choose a succession model most beneficial to the school.
And now, after three years of prayerful, vigorous planning and development, the Hope Academy Board of Directors has selected our next Head of School, Mr. Kelvin Simms. Kelvin and I will work together for the next 16 months in tandem leadership, as I remain acting Head of School with Kelvin as Head of School Designate for the 2025-26 school year. After that, I will turn my focus to starting more Hope Academy-type schools around the country—a ministry we call Spreading Hope. Andrew Pearce will transition to the role of Middle School Principal in July 2025.
Kelvin has twelve years of experience in education—the last seven here at Hope Academy. He is a strategic leader with a pastor’s heart. Kelvin joined our faculty in 2017 as a Humanities teacher, then transitioned to Middle School Instructional Director, and most recently has held the position of Middle School Principal. He’s also served on our school’s Leadership Team since 2023.
The list of gifts, graces and competencies that suit Kelvin for this position is extensive. But a calling to school leadership is not simply equivalent to a sum of competencies; I have been praying for the Board to have a Holy Spirit-given discernment to perceive God’s calling on Kelvin’s life for this role. And that’s why I wept for joy at the Board’s unanimous affirmation of Kelvin as our next Head of School. I joyfully and expectantly commend him to you with all my heart.
I couldn’t be more excited for the future of Hope Academy. I believe Kelvin is God’s chosen instrument to build upon Hope’s mission to foster hope in God by providing a remarkable, God-centered education for the youth of the city. Please join me in praying for Kelvin and for God’s leading in this next chapter.
With thanksgiving for all you,
Russ Gregg
Co-Founder & Head of School

At Hope Academy we believe in exercising a daily, moment-by-moment radical dependence on God and His Word. Radical dependence on God refers to a deep, unwavering reliance on God for guidance, strength, provision, and overall existence. This concept is often rooted in spiritual beliefs and practices that emphasize faith, trust, and surrender to a higher power.
John 15:5 reads, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” This passage beautifully illustrates the concept of radical dependence on God. It encourages us to recognize our need for Jesus in every aspect of life, to cultivate a deep relationship with Him, and to produce fruit that reflects their faith. By understanding and embracing this dependence, we can experience true fulfillment and purpose in our lives!
