Position Overview

K-2 Learning Specialist (0.5): We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate K-2 Learning Specialist to join our team. This role focuses on supporting students with barriers to learning, particularly those with learning disabilities, through direct and indirect services. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and intervention staff to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

LS Student Support Coordinator (0.35): This role can be connected to the K-2 Learning Specialist role.  The primary purpose is to partner with the Director of Student Support in collaborating with administration and teachers on key decisions in the Lower School.  More information is available upon request.

Job Details

Direct Student Services

  • Facilitate academic interventions tailored to individual student needs, including push-in and pull-out support for reading, writing, math, and fine and gross motor skills.
  • Implement and maintain accommodations outlined in students’ learning plans.
  • Facilitate and support the delivery of special education services in collaboration with Minneapolis Public Schools.
  • Monitor student progress, advocate for academic testing when needed, and make data-informed decisions to adjust interventions.

Indirect Student Services

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate accommodations seamlessly into the general education setting.
  • Provide guidance and resources to parents, equipping them to support their child’s academic growth at home.
  • Act as a liaison between school staff, parents, and external service providers to ensure consistent support for students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching elementary school students or working as an interventionist, particularly with learning disabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of Accommodation Plans, Special Education processes, and intervention strategies.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt interventions to diverse needs.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passion for working in a diverse urban school setting and supporting all students in reaching their full potential.

Salary is dependent on qualifications, FTE, and our teacher pay scale: $41,000-$69,000.
